Ever seen those anti-religious memes on the Internet, usually featuring a super-cool celebrity or a serious scientist proclaiming the virtues of atheism and the ridiculousness of religion? Here are a couple of examples:
That was deep, Gwyneth. Deep, deep stuff. Wow. And not judgmental or intolerant. No.
Wisdom from Mr. Bean. Thank you. I'm a better person now that I know what a hater you are.
Poor Harry. Nice to know he doesn't force his lack of belief on others...except when he makes public statements. Whatev.
Brilliant, right? Honestly, it's hard for me to be what one might call a charitable Christian in light of such self-righteousness, but there it is. It find it odd that these militant atheists are not one tenth as tolerant as any Christian or Jew or any other serious practitioner of any religion, but wait...they're smart. They're LOGICAL. They're rational. Dawkins believes in probability rather than God, which is hilarious when you really think about it.
Either way, I reached a breaking point yesterday, so I thought I'd offer a few memes of my own. I reserve the right to add more as time progresses, but this is a good start:
What is particularly offensive to me is that, rather than simply stating that they believe in ration and logic and that's it, these militant atheists like to tear down ones intelligence. Can't they make their point without demeaning another person? Can't they be strong enough and confident enough that they can have their stance without having to drag other people down and make them out to be complete idiots merely because they believe in God and practice religion?
Let's say that religious people are truly idiotic and irrational and childish as these militant claim (in the blanket judgment they make). If that's the case, then let's look at this list of "idiots" and "childish morons":
witty; cunning; crafty
